David McLeod

 
 

David McLeod’s rich and varied artistic career spans over 30 years.

This includes performance as a singer/songwriter, band leader, session and backup singer, featured artist, actor and painter. He has been in numerous television series’ and received top shelf musical theatre credits, notably a Mo Award nomination for best supporting actor in a musical. His recording career spans three albums and one EP covering jazz, blues, original songs and cast recordings.

As an educator, David has been lecturing as a vocal and performance coach since 2002, specialising in performance anxiety and breathing techniques. David dedicates most of his time lecturing and supervising students at the Australian Institute of Music (AIM). In 2021, he devised and delivered the “Body Awareness for Musicians” unit of study for the Bachelor of Music Classical course at AIM designed to create an awareness of the body’s function in relation to musical performance, helping to prevent unhealthy and injury-producing errors, and produce more effective and physically sustainable practice methods. Topics include David’s Better Breathing, an introduction to Buteyko breathing, dealing with performance anxiety, an introduction to guided meditation and basic Cognitive Behavioural Therapy techniques.

David holds a M.Mus (AIM) – GDMus – GCMus (AIM), Dip Ed St (CoT, Lond), Cert Ed St Coes Theory (CoT, Lond), Cert Coes Practice (CoT, Lond), Cert IV Assessment and Workplace training, Estill voice workshops attendance level one and two, is a certified Buteyko instructor, and has Vipassana training.

A long-standing mentor to the CaSPA program, David works regularly with senior high school students in group and one on one sessions. He also volunteers his time to the Blue Guitar Project (for more information, see blueguitarproject.com).
